By all means, have him do the surgery (thoracosopy). This condition is too dangerous and miserable to go through again if it can be prevented. I had 2 lung collapses last year, 4 months apart and never want to experience it again. It's major surgery and took me 1&1/2 months to recover enough to go back to work, but it's worth it, in fact I'm surprised that his doctor(s) haven't suggested surgery sooner. Here's what they did: Stapled some blebs, removed some lung tissue and roughed up the lung and chest wall so they stuck together. My surgeon was Ali Safavi at St. Luke's/Roosevelt in NYC. I'm sure he'd be happy to talk to you about the procedure. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to post a response. I'd be happy to help if I can. Linda
