I am a 43 yr old woman with CN since birth. I had surgery 20 yrs ago, but I have no idea what it was called. It helped stabilize the eye movements and keep my eyes straight. I think it has regressed somewhat, but I also think maturity and confidence has lessened it and its visibility to others. I was also bullied in elementery school. I have finished my BA, but have never really found the right career for me. I am also a professional dancer.Starting a new job is always stressful, as I read very close and stick my face in a computer monitor, which can scare employers when they first see. Some people notice the nystagmus right away, and others know me for a while and never notice until I tell them, or until they see me read a restaurant menu. I have a daytime only drivers license, and like you, cannot read streeet signs or addresses, so I need explicit directions. Sometimes I am more comfortable on a bus until I am familiar with a neighborhood and landmrks. Do you drive on the freeway? I have not, and I am very scared of freeway driving. I feel grateful to have my license, as eye doctors are shocked I drive. Ironicially, I enjoy driving and when my eyes are still, I am quite competent at it. But I have to pay close attention. I would love to hear from anyone out there with the same conditon. I have never spoken to or met anyone else with it.
