My sister has scholiosis, and when she was a young teen, several years ago, they put a metal bar in her back. She has a long scar on her back, but it doesn't bother her. She was limited at first as she was in a body type cast for a while. Now, she does almost anything. She is warned not to do things to jar the bar such as skating and horse back riding. Swimming is a great activity for her. Good luck!
