I have had polymyalgia rheumatica for about two years and the treatment by my rheumatologist is totally different than yours. I was started on 15 mg. of prednisone for one month, down to 10 mg. for a month, 9 mg for a month, and so on until just last week when I took my last pill. I still have some stiffness but I'm happy to be off of prednisone. Now, my problem seems to be with my thyroid so I should feel less stiffness in about a month. The thought of polymyalgia recurring is not a pleasant one. Also, my doctor told me that polymyalgia would not go away on its own.
