I have a case somewhat similar to yours Shar. I wonder how much you exercised. I was a Masters swimmer and was diagnosed in Nov 2003 as severely overtrained (I was overdoing it!) but the symptoms were classic PMR and when I finally went to a rheumatologist in Jan, it was confirmed. My mother got it when she was 74 (I am 60) after a 15 mile hike which she obviously didn't do every day. I was able to be off the entire month of Oct. but then had a flare up and am back on 5 mg plus Sindulac (a non Cox 2 inhibitor) for a few weeks (I hope). But in August I tore my rotator cuff and can no longer swim or do much. I may even have to have an operation. Prednisone damages the muscles. And my rheumatologist told me to keep exercising as much as I could. She's changed her tune now!
